Weekend Hoops Recap: January 11-12

Another action-packed weekend of local hoops!

BANKS COUNTY

The #7-ranked Lady Leopards (15-3; 5-2) earned an easy road region win at Social Circle, 74-24. Heather Vaughan had 24 points, the same amount as Social Circle had as a team combined. Jaycie Bowen and Amber Williams both had 12 points. The Leopards (10-8; 5-2) lost at SC, 64-56.

COMMERCE

It was a tough weekend for Commerce hoops, as the Lady Tigers (9-7; 1-2) fell 42-23 to Prince Avenue, while the Tigers (1-16; 0-5) dropped a pair to Lakeview, 81-52, and Prince Avenue, 66-49. Jaylen Dorsey had 28 over both games (12 vs Lakeview; 16 vs PA). Chandler Martin had 10 versus Lakeview, and Ian McConnell had 9 against PAC.

DAWSON COUNTY

The #3-ranked Tigers (16-3; 6-1 in 7-AAA) remained dominant in a 71-36 win over Fannin County, with Jasper Gibson leading the way with 23 points, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. Luke Chism, who was named Homecoming King at the game, had 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. Ahmad Kamara added 13 points and 5 boards.

The #8-ranked Lady Tigers (13-6; 5-2) also earned a region win at home over Fannin, 58-32. Madison Anglin and Sophia d’Oliveira had 14 each, while Rachel Swafford had 9. Marlie Townley and Mariah Benson both had 7, Ella Siuta scored 3, and Anna Lowe and Kaylee Sticker scored 2 each. Sticker was named Homecoming Queen at the game.

HABERSHAM CENTRAL

The Raiders (2-14; 0-3) lost to Dacula, 92-69, while the Lady Raiders (3-12; 0-3) lost a very close one also to Dacula, 42-38.

JEFFERSON

The #3-ranked Lady Dragons (17-2; 6-1) beat Monroe Area 60-39 and Apalachee 56-42 over the weekend, pushing the newest win streak to four games. Natalia Bolden led the way with 17 points against Monroe. Livi Blackstock had 10 against Monroe and 16 against Apalachee. Deshona Gaither had 10 and 14 in the two games.

The Dragons (13-6; 5-2) dropped a heartbreaker to Monroe, 52-51, but rebounded with a non-region win over Apalachee, 80-42.

LUMPKIN COUNTY

The Lady Indians (14-5; 3-4) split the weekend set, beating Cherokee Bluff 55-32 for a region win, then dropping a non-region contest to White County, 56-45. Mackenzie Pulley had 18 in each game, while Isabel Davenport had 13 and 14 in the two games.

The Indians (5-14; 1-6) lost both, losing to Cherokee Bluff 95-44 and White County 59-49.

RABUN COUNTY

The #2-ranked Lady Wildcats (15-1; 7-0) now have a 13-game win streak after taking a win over Putnam County 74-54. The Wildcats (3-13; 2-5) also earned a win over Putnam, 82-55.

STEPHENS COUNTY

The Indians (12-6; 2-1) won a thriller over Oconee County 46-45, while the Lady Indians (5-12; 1-2) also won over Oconee, 51-47.

TALLULAH FALLS

The Lady Indians (13-5; 1-1) beat George Walton 42-31 and then Strong Rock Christian 52-42 for a solid weekend. Nyah Williams had 20 against Strong Rock, while Lillie Free and Katy Corbett both had 11. The Indians (6-12; 1-2) beat George Walton 58-52 but lost to Wesleyan, 67-58.

TOWNS COUNTY

The Lady Indians (9-8; 3-0) remained perfect in region play with a win over Athens Academy, 46-42, and another over George Walton, 50-28. Vanessa Floyd had 18 against Athens Academy and 21 over George Walton, including three buzzer-beating shots over the two games.

The Indians (7-11; 1-3) fell to Athens Academy 58-53 and George Walton 55-28.

UNION COUNTY

The Panthers (11-6; 4-3) beat Oglethorpe 64-60 and then Fannin 47-45 for a pair of close wins. Sawyer Drake had 17, Pierson Allison 12, and Colton Day 10 in the Fannin win. Drake and Allison both had 18 in the Oglethorpe win.

The Lady Panthers (11-6; 4-3) also won both, defeating Oglethorpe 48-19 and Fannin 51-47. In the Oglethorpe game, the girls scored 23 straight to open up. Ava Hunter had 10 in that game and Kait McCarter 9. McCarter had 23 in the Fannin game, while Hunter chipped in with 12, and Andelin Hill 10.

WHITE COUNTY

The Lady Warriors (10-8; 4-3) swept the weekend with a 65-48 win over Blessed Trinity and a 56-45 win over Lumpkin County. Dasha Cannon led with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists against BT, while Bentley Cronic had 18 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds.

The Warriors (6-13; 1-6) fell to Blessed Trinity 63-54 before rebounding with a 59-49 win over Lumpkin.
