The Habersham Central Raiders came off their bye week for the region opener Friday against Lanier at Sugar Hill. The Raiders lost 38-10.

In the first half, Jackson Clouatre scored the Raiders’ only TD. At the half Lanier led 21-10. The Raiders trailed throughout and couldn’t find the end zone in the second half.

The Longhorns came back from the break to score a field goal with eight minutes left in the 3rd. They then scored two TDs.

Zach Calzada scored on a 6 yard rushing touchdown with five minutes left in the 3rd. Then, with under a minute left, the Longhorns did it again, scoring on another rushing TD and moving the scoreboard 38-10. That’s where it stayed.

The loss drops Habersham even on the season, 3-3 overall. Up next, the Raiders take on Gainesville at home on Oct. 5.

#5 Flowery Branch 42, White County 0

The Falcons used a balanced attacked to score early and often in Cleveland in a blowout win. The Warriors will have a bye week to regroup after losing their fifth straight game.

#7 Jefferson 17, Franklin County 10

The Dragons may have won this game, but we’re hoping they didn’t lose QB Colby Clark as rumor has it he came out early in this game. Dragons have five wins in a row, but were down 10-3 until a TD with seven minutes left tied it up. Another touchdown with 14 seconds to go gave Jefferson the thriller.

#9 Dawson County 64, East Hall 0

The train continues to roll…a 6-0 start for the Tigers and there’s no end in sight to when it will come to an end.

Union County 29, Elbert County 28

Call it the game of the night, although maybe Jefferson’s was tied. It was a scoreless first quarter, but a Pierson Allison to Chayton Shafer 21-yd TD put the Panthers up 7-0. Elbert scored after that, but the missed PAT ended up being the difference. Allison found Kyle Morlock to stretch the lead to 14-6 at the break. The third quarter was all Elbert, as it scored twice including taking advantage of an interception to go up 21-14. Union tied it up early in the fourth on a Chad Buzzard TD run. Elbert took a lead with 2:42 to go, but Buzzard’s second TD run with 1:25 to go looked to knot it up. The Panthers pulled out a trick play, a very gutsy one at that, and the 2-point conversion on a reverse to Sawyer Drake gave Union the 29-28 win! John Mancuso sealed the deal with an interception in Union territory.

Riverside Military 48, Towns County 14

RMA bulldozed Towns County in a bit of a surprising outcome.
