Week 3 scores and recaps

With the conclusion of Week 3, we’re officially 1/4 of the way through the regular season…which is crazy!

Habersham Central 31, White County 28

The Raiders made a first-quarter lead hold up to the final horn. Paris Wilbanks threw and ran for a TD, and Antonio Cantrell had a pair of TDs. Camden Meads nailed a 46-yd FG as time expired in the first half, which proved the difference. For the Warriors, Tripp Nix was back, and Noel Lammers had a career-high 3 TD runs. A pick-six by Zach Godfrey was the other score.

#2 Jefferson 42, Clarke Central 14

The Dragons earned an easy 42-14 win over Clarke Central. Dallas Russell got the party started with a 3-yd TD in the first. Taylor McCall’s 23-yd FG made it 10-0, and Gavin Markey, in the second, hit Dalton Dye for a 32-yd TD and the 17-7 lead. McCall added another FG before the break. Rett Hemphill had a TD run in the third, and a 2PC made it 28-14. Russell added another scoring run to open the fourth, and Markey had a 5-yd TD to polish it off.

#9 Lumpkin County 28, #10 Hart County 25

A nail-biter went the way of the Indians. After falling behind 7-0, Lumpkin tied it up before the end of the first. It was 10-7 Hart County at the break, but Nolan Matthews had a go-ahead 5-yd TD late in the third to go up 14-10. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead to open the fourth, but Cal Faulkner threw a 4-yd TD pass to AJ Scott for the 21-17 lead with 7:36 to go. Again, Hart County came back and took the lead with 4:20 on the clock, but Faulkner had a 32-yd TD run with 2:07 to go, and the defense held strong from there.

East Jackson 37, Dawson County 10

The Tigers dropped a 37-10 final. Preston Bannister had a 2-yd TD late in the third, while Jacob Felkai nailed an early field goal.

#4 Fannin County 42, Union County 7

High-flying Fannin County won 42-7 over Union County, as the Panthers fall to 0-2 on the season.

Franklin County 9, Banks County 6

The Leopards couldn’t get the offense going in a tough 9-6 loss that pushes Banks County to 0-2 to start the season.

#2 Stephens County 52, Cedar Shoals 3

Zero drama in this contest, as the Indians throttled Cedar Shoals 52-3 to remain unbeaten at 3-0 on the season.

Commerce 24, Luella 14

The Tigers took the first score on a Tysean Wiggins TD run from 7 yards out. It was tied at 7 after one, and Luella led 14-7 at the half. In the third, Wiggins had a 17-yd run for pay dirt to put Commerce up 17-14. He added a third TD run with 4:39 left in the ballgame to put the icing on the cake, as the Tigers get their first win.

Lakeview 42, Towns County 0

The Lions cruised past visiting Towns County, 42-0, handing the Indians their first loss of the season in Gainesville.
