A water system malfunction disrupted operations at Stephens County Hospital on Wednesday morning, May 21. A pressure reducing valve in the hospital’s plumbing system failed, leading to increased pressure and multiple leaks.
According to Joley Strickland, Director of Marketing, PR, and Community Engagement at Stephens County Hospital, the failure caused water to leak in various areas of the facility. Although hospital staff quickly contained the leaks, the damage was “significant” in some administrative offices and parts of the emergency department.
“Repairs began immediately on Wednesday afternoon,” Strickland confirmed, adding that while full hospital operations have since resumed, the incident will result in ongoing construction over the next few months.
The disruption was temporary, though impactful. Emergency response protocols were implemented swiftly to minimize the effect on patient care. Hospital officials have not indicated any interruption to critical services, and normal operations are now fully restored.
The hospital is urging patients and visitors to remain aware of potential detours and construction zones as restoration efforts continue.
