Boil water advisory issued until further notice
A boil water advisory has been issued for the Kmart shopping plaza in Cornelia. The advisory, posted by the city on its Nixle alert, was issued following a water outage. Service on the private water system was restored by mid-afternoon Sunday.
While the advisory has minimal impact on retailers, it’s causing some headaches for restaurants in the plaza.
Brian Pastman is owner of Papa John’s Pizza in Cornelia. He says the outage and subsequent advisory have been inconvenient. “We went to Walmart and got 100 gallons of water,” Pastman says. He says while the water isn’t used or needed for food preparation, it is being used for dishwashing, handwashing and cleaning. Other than the inconvenience for him and his staff, Pastman says there’s been no disruption of service to customers. “We’re open and ready for business,” he says.
The New Magic Dragon is also open for business but Kadadydles subs and salads closed its doors Sunday. The eatery took to social media to alert customers it was closing.
The boil water advisory is a precaution to guard against possible contamination that may have occurred during water line repairs. The advisory remains in effect until water samples are tested and cleared by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Those water test results are expected by Tuesday.
