Warrant out for Alto man’s arrest following Monday crash

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what appears to have been an intentional car crash on the south end of the county Monday morning.

On April 4 at 1:52 am, Habersham E-911 dispatched deputies to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at Crane Mill Road and Gainesville Highway. Deputies determined the crash was intentional and that one of the drivers, 49-year-old Alton Lee Davidson of Alto, hit the other car and then fled the scene.

While deputies were interviewing the three occupants of the car Davidson struck, one of them, Amanda Allen, claimed Davidson kidnapped her at gunpoint but she escaped. She told deputies she was picked up by the two other people in the car, identified as Carolyn Masters and Kenneth West, just before the crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, Masters and West told deputies they were driving in the area of Gainesville Highway near the Hall County line when they saw Allen being held against her will. They claimed to have followed Davidson’s vehicle until Allen escaped and they picked her up.

A short time later, Masters, West, and Allen said Davidson purposely crashed into the red Volkswagen Jetta they were in, forcing them off the road and disabling their vehicle.

A criminal investigator from the sheriff’s office responded to the scene and determined Masters and Allen were not truthful in their statements about the alleged kidnapping.

The investigation into the false reports by Masters and Allen continues, officials say.

Deputies obtained arrest warrants for Davidson on three counts of aggravated assault and one count of first-degree criminal damage to property.
