A Cornelia man wanted on outstanding warrants in Baldwin and White County is in jail after leading police on a motorcycle chase through Habersham and Banks Counties.
Baldwin Police Chief Chad Nichols says it started around 3:55pm Tuesday when 41-year old David McCall of Cornelia was spotted leaving a residence on Duncan Bridge Road. A Baldwin police officer recognized McCall, having recently taken out warrants for his arrest on charges of theft by taking and simple battery. The officer attempted to stop McCall and Nichols says the suspect ran.
Police gave chase as McCall drove his motorcycle down Duncan Bridge Road to the Old Gainesville Highway then onto Apple Pie Ridge Road into Banks County. At the intersection of Apple Pie Ridge and US Hwy 441, McCall lost control of the motorcycle, overturned and then fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, he was apprehended by Baldwin police.
McCall was arrested on the two outstanding warrants from Baldwin and a felony probation warrant out of White County. He also faces traffic charges stemming from the chase.
The Georgia State Patrol was called in to investigate the motorcycle crash.
