Voting? Here’s when, where, and who’s running in Habersham County

Voters have one last opportunity to vote in the May 21 Primary Election. Polls will open Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. at all six voting precincts in Habersham County. (Jerry Neace/NowHabersham.com)

Early voting for the May 21 General Primary Election is underway. Early voting began on Monday April 29 and will run through Friday May 17. The primary election date is Tuesday May 21.

Early voting- Habersham South Precinct only

Habersham County has only one early voting location. Voters can cast a ballot in-person at the Habersham South Precinct at 403 Habersham County Shopping Center in Cornelia. Early voting at this location began April 29 and will run through Friday May 10. The precinct will be open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Advance voting-Two locations

Advance voting will begin on Monday May 13 and run through Friday May 17. Habersham County will have two locations accepting ballots for in-person voting. The Habersham South Precinct and the Habersham North Precinct will be operational during those dates from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.

Habersham North Precinct is located in the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center at 120 Paul Franklin Road, Toccoa Highway in Clarkesville.

Saturday voting

Voters will have two opportunities to vote on Saturday prior to the May 21 primary election. The Habersham South Precinct only will be open Saturday May 4 for in-person voting from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Habersham South Precinct and the Habersham North Precinct will both be open for in-person voting on Saturday May 11. Hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Absentee Ballots

Those wishing to drop off an absentee ballot may do so at the drop box located at the Habersham South Precinct in Cornelia during voting hours.

Those wishing to mail absentee ballots to the Habersham County Elections Office may do so but are encouraged to mail them in as soon as possible due to delays with postal delivery.

Day of election

The final day for voters to cast a ballot for a candidate will be Tuesday May 21. Habersham County will have all six precincts open for voters from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Those precincts are listed below.

  • Habersham North Precinct- 120 Paul Franklin Road, Toccoa Highway in Clarkesville
  • Habersham South Precinct- 403 Habersham County Shopping Center in Cornelia
  • Demorest Precinct- 250 Alabama Street in Demorest
  • Town of Mount Airy-1231 Dicks Hill Parkway in Mt. Airy
  • Mud Creek Precinct- 1405 B.C. Grant Road in Alto
  • Amy’s Creek Precinct- 6357 State Highway 17 in Clarkesville

Live Debate

For those Habersham County voters that are unsure who the candidates are that are in the contested races that are running for office or are undecided, Now Habersham will be hosting a Live Debate on Thursday May 9 at the Demorest Municipal Conference Center at 250 Alabama Street in Demorest.

Voters will have an opportunity to get a bite to eat and meet the candidates prior to the debate from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Food trucks will be available during that time.

The County Commission candidates will begin their debate at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude at 8:10 p.m. The Board of Education candidates will begin their debate at 8:15 p.m. and should conclude around 9:00 p.m.
