MACON, Ga. – Despite a slow start that saw Wesleyan take the first set, the Piedmont University volleyball team claimed a 3-1 win on the road against the Wolves Wednesday.
It was an impressive night for Katie Hubbard and Jenna Ash who both totaled 14 kills for the Lions. Freshman Kaylee Ashcraft was also in double figures with 13 kills.
Vanessa Manzo tied a career-high with seven kills as she led Piedmont with 43 assists. Taylor Herrmann led the Lions with 24 digs while Ashcraft added 13 digs.
The Wolves were able to manage nine blocks to Piedmont’s four and also posted seven aces to the Lions’ five.
Piedmont fell behind after a 25-21 win for Wesleyan in the first set, but then evened the score with a 25-20 win of their own. In the third set, Piedmont left no doubt with a 25-13 win and closed it out in four 25-19.
Up next, the Lions will host Belhaven and Maryville in conference action Saturday inside Cave Arena.
TURNING POINT:
–After dropping the opening set, Piedmont was able to bounce back and leave no doubt.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
–Katie Hubbard and Jenna Ash both tallied 14 kills as Piedmont totaled 59 in the match.
