Sheriff’s office hosts toy drive in Mayfield’s memory

Habersham County School Resource Officer Patrick Mayfield, who passed away on July 5, was well-known for his infectious laugh and contagious smile. “His big heart was filled with generosity and kindness. He was a gadget guy always wanting to show his toys to the kids, or awe them by turning his patrol lights on,” says his family.

The sheer number of online tributes that have been shared and the hundreds of people who turned out for his funeral on Saturday are evidence of how well-known, respected, and loved Mayfield was. Now, his family and colleagues hope to harness that love for a good cause. They’ve set up a toy drive at the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office in honor of SRO Mayfield.

You may drop off toys with Miranda Kemp or Kelly Duncan from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The donated toys will be given to children who need them at Christmas.

In addition, a memorial fund has been set up to help Mayfield’s family. If you’d like to donate, click here.
