The VFW Auxiliary invites high school students to put their patriotism and talent on display. The auxiliary’s annual Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest is now underway. The contest is open to students in grades 9-12.
To participate, students may submit two- and three-dimensional works of art to the VFW Auxiliary that serves the county in which they live. Digital art, photography and jewelry are not accepted.
Only entries done this school year (2018-2019) are eligible. Applications must include a teacher or supervising adult’s signature.
Students in Habersham, Banks, and White counties may submit their entries to the Grant-Reeves VFW Post #7720 in Cornelia.
The entry deadline is March 31st.
The first-place winner from each Auxiliary will advance to state competition where they’ll compete for their share of $29,500 in scholarship money.
All state winning entries will be judged at the VFW Auxiliary National Convention July 20-24 in Orlando, Florida. The national first place winner will receive a $15,000 scholarship. The VFW Auxiliary will feature the top eight national award winners in its magazine and on the VFW Auxiliary website.
The VFW Auxiliary started the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest in 1979 to recognize up-and-coming artists and encourage patriotism in youth. Approximately 3,500 students participate each year, according to organizers. In addition to the $29,500 in national scholarships, local and state VFW Auxiliaries throughout the nation award more than $130,000 in Patriotic Art scholarships every year.
Interested students, parents and teachers in Habersham, Banks, and White counties should contact Belinda Baragona at 706-768-1784 or at [email protected] for more information.
