VFL hosts 10th annual duck race and the winners are…

Around 2200 rubber ducks raced along a quarter-mile stretch of the Soque River at Pitts Park in Clarkesville on Saturday, May 15. The first three ducks to cross the finish line won their respective ticket holders their share of $1,750 in cash prizes. (photo courtesy VFL)

Thousands of rubber ducks raced and raised thousands of dollars to support literacy programs in Habersham County. The winners of the 10th annual Volunteers for Literacy Duck Race are:

1st Place $1,000 Winner – Sherri Purcell
2nd Place $500 Winner – Michael Buelow
3rd Place $250 Winner – S. Prichett

The quarter-mile race down the Soque River at Pitts Park capped off a day of events during the 59th annual Mountain Laurel Festival in Clarkesville.

There was a parade, live entertainment, arts & crafts, and vendor booths set up on the square, and another VFL fundraiser — DecADucks.

Local businesses sponsored and decorated large rubber ducks to benefit literacy and win bragging rights.

Elizabeth & Co. Resale Treasures won People’s Choice and Best All Around for its DecADuck entry “Dolly Parton Imagination Library.” (VFL Facebook)
