Volunteers for Literacy of Habersham County is celebrating the success of its summer reading program. During June and July, the local nonprofit gave more than 900 new and gently used books to approximately 180 children and teens

For the past five years, VFL has partnered with Habersham County Schools’ Summer Meals Program to encourage children and teens to read during the summer by offering free books.

On July 13, volunteers were set up at Cornelia and Demorest Elementary schools and at Whispering Woods and Meadowbrook Laundromats with hundreds of books to give away. Each child could choose five books to keep as their own.
