(Cleveland)- Around 300 veterans and their spouses attended the annual Veteran’s Luncheon Tuesday at Mount Yonah Baptist Church, north of Cleveland. It was a time to say thank you to those who have served our country. The group was inspired, not only by the speakers, but the singing of The National Anthem and God Bless America, by Tenor Timothy Miller with The Atlanta Opera
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hobson, who is the JROTC instructor at White County High School, spoke to the group and shared his experience working with the youth and helping them prepare to serve our county. Hobson said, veterans like those sitting in the auditorium stands for the backbone of the country and makes it great. He said about the student he works with, “ Regardless of what situation anybody says this country is in, or that generation or this generation, hey the generation coming up are ready to stand up for you and ready to be there just like you were.”
Pastor Marty Dunkerlly, of Set Free Church in Dawsonville, a marine and former Baltimore police officer… fired up the crowd when he talked about the enemies that are attacking our country, Dunkerly said, “ It’s us, God is looking for us to step up and take our place in defense of this nation. There’s an enemy, we see it in the natural but there’s also a supernatural enemy, that is coming against the nation and we as the veterans of this country will join together and believe God to change this nation we can see America rise once again to be the greatest nation in the world.”
White County JROTC cadets also contributed to the program and the veterans were served a special lunch meal prepared by Hofbrauhaus Restaurant in Helen.
