#10 Tallulah Falls traveled on Tuesday to Athens Christian to take on the Eagles. Both the varsity and JV teams earned victories.

The Lady Indians’ varsity team won 3-1 in the best-of-five match. After a 25-15 opening set, TFS dropped the next one 21-25. However, the team quickly rebounded with a 25-7 and 25-21 third and fourth set to claim the match.

“It was a night of ups and downs as we were resting a couple players,” says coach Matt Heyl. “We played down most of the night, struggling to put them away a little bit.”

Shelby Whisnant served for a run of 15 with several aces in the third set, backed up by some great play from the team in that set. Laura Ruiz Rendon hit well in the first couple of sets, and Ca’Rin Swinton and Lily Smith shined in the third set with several kills. Swinton, who leads the team in blocks, was a wall that Athens Christian couldn’t get past, according to Heyl. Margalida Amengual Sanchez had a great serving night as well.

The Lady Indians are now 16-14 overall and 5-1 in region play.

Meanwhile, the JV Lady Indians took a 2-0 victory against Athens Christian. Finlee Ridlehoover had a 6-point run at serve, and Tori Crotta and Stella Bowman each had a kill in the opening set, a 26-24 gritty win.

“The girls started with high energy and started losing momentum but came through with a win,” says coach Ryan Nelson.

The second set again favored TFS, 25-15. Ridlehoover began the set with a 5-point run again at serve. Bowman recorded a key block.

“We had high energy all game – the girls played very well together,” adds Nelson.

The JV team is 8-10 overall and 2-3 in region play.
