The University System of Georgia has warned that its employees are increasingly the targets of cyber criminals after their pay.
University System of Georgia employees were warned this week that cyberattacks have increased over the last two pay periods. Cyber criminals have used phishing emails and DUO codes to make changes to direct deposit information, which has resulted in stolen pay.
The university system also announced that it does not issue second payments when pay has been stolen through misdirection. Victims of fraud attempts who misdirected their pay are encouraged to contact the police.
Information technology officials at the University of Georgia suggest that employees review their pay for each period and provided several email security recommendations. Employees are encouraged to report suspicious emails, to treat external senders as malicious until proven otherwise, and to avoid clicking on embedded links that ask to verify OneUSG Connect credentials.
Fraud attempts can be reported to [email protected].
