Free exhibit of UGA sports treasures April 18 at NGTC

University of Georgia fans will get a chance to view some of the school’s iconic sports memorabilia today in Clarkesville. North Georgia Technical College is hosting an exhibit of Bulldog treasures from the UGA Athletic Association from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the college’s Clarkesville campus library.

Visitors will get an up-close look at memorabilia from this year’s national championship game, including items worn by Keelee Ringo and Stetson Bennett. The exhibit also includes Ketura Orji’s 2016 Olympic track and field uniform from the Rio Olympics; the oldest football helmet in UGA’s archive dating back to the early 20th century; football programs, including one from the 1903 Georgia-Auburn game with Clarkesville native Harold Ketron on the cover; and artifacts relating to the life and career of legendary former UGA head football coach Vince Dooley, among other items.

These artifacts are permanently housed in UGA’s Hargrett Rare Book & Manuscript Library in Athens. The library tours artifacts around the state to share with the public. UGA Athletics History Specialist Jason Hasty will be bringing the select artifacts to Clarkesville.

“All UGA fans will want to be a part of this one-day-only event to catch a glimpse of these historical treasures. Sports enthusiasts are encouraged to come and spend time reliving or learning about some great moments in history,” says NGTC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Marketing Amy Hulsey. “Our college is very excited to host UGA right here in our community, so we hope many people will put on their red and black and come visit the exhibit!”

NGTC Librarian Jamey Wilkes is an avid Dawgs fan and looks forward to the event.

“I am very excited to host the University of Georgia athletics exhibit in our library,” says Wilkes. “I can’t wait to see the memorabilia and treasures from the UGA library. This is an incredible opportunity for us here at North Georgia Technical College, and I know we will have a great turnout for this unique experience. Go Dawgs!”

The event is free and open to the public. The NGTC library is located in the Carlton Center at 1500 Highway 197 North.
