U.S. Senate Republicans block a voting rights bill for the third time this year

For the third time this year, Senate Democrats tried to bring a voting rights bill to the floor and for the third time the attempt failed in the face of overwhelming GOP opposition. (Jill Nolin/Georgia Recorder)

Georgia U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock said while he was glad one Republican supported the measure, he was “deeply appalled” that most Republicans chose to block efforts to debate the issue.

“In the spirit of Congressman Lewis, it is incumbent on those Senators who believe in protecting the sacred right to vote to act and legislate boldly to defend the foundations of our democracy,” Warnock said in a statement.
