Ty Akins sworn-in as Habersham County’s District 5 Commissioner

Clarkesville business owner Ty Akins was sworn-in Wednesday morning as Habersham County’s District 5 Commissioner.

Probate Judge Pam Wooley conducted the ceremony at the Habersham County Courthouse. Akins’ mother Bonnie and daughter Maggie attended, along with a number of county staff and elected and appointed officials.

Akins won the November 30 runoff election against Jason Hogan, claiming 65% of the 1,321 ballots cast. He succeeds former District 5 Commissioner Tim Stamey who resigned in April for health reasons.

Commissioner Akins is now the third person to hold the seat since Ed Nichols resigned in August 2019.
