A Georgia State Trooper cited a driver for following too closely in a rear-end wreck in Demorest that sent two people to the hospital.

According to the crash report, 18-year-old Addie Stewman of Lilburn was driving a Ford Fusion northbound on Central Avenue/Business US 441 when she ran into the back of a Jeep Cherokee. At the time of the accident, the driver of the Jeep, Jimy Fort, 51, of Clayton, was stopped in the road, attempting to turn left into a private drive near Chesnut Avenue.

The impact of the wreck caused the Jeep to overturn.

An eyewitness told investigating Trooper Ben Cheek of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa that Fort’s turn signal was on before the crash.

The wreck injured Stewman and Fort. EMS transported them by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center in Demorest for treatment. A passenger in the Jeep, 47-year-old Jennifer Fort, was uninjured.

The wreck shut down Central Avenue near the accident site for nearly an hour as law enforcement rerouted traffic.
