Two-vehicle crash near Clarkesville sends three people to the hospital

A two-vehicle crash injured three people Tuesday in Habersham County. The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 115 and Habersham Mills Road.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Aurora Isabella Mata, 17, of Monroe, was traveling west on Habersham Mill Road in a 2006 Honda Pilot. She stopped at the stop sign at the intersection with SR 115. As she moved into the intersection, Troopers say she failed to yield and pulled into the path of a 2009 Cadillac CTS driven by 83-year-old Mary Swaney of Demorest.

The Cadillac struck the right side of the Honda causing the Honda to overturn. The wreck injured Swaney, Mata, and a passenger in Mata’s vehicle, 16-year-old Katelyn Olivia Grayson.

Habersham EMS transported all three to Habersham Medical Center in Demorest for treatment.

The Georgia State Trooper investigating the accident charged Mata with failing to yield after stopping at a stop sign.
