
Two men from Toccoa are behind bars following a violent home invasion early Sunday morning in Franklin County.
Around 4:12 a.m. on July 20, Franklin County 911 received a report of a home invasion and assault at a residence on Fairview Farms Circle. Deputies responded and found a victim who had been assaulted. Franklin County EMS transported the victim to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Andrews, investigators identified two suspects during the investigation and obtained arrest warrants. Both suspects—28-year-old Austin King of Brookdale Road and 40-year-old Joel Travis Smith of Ed Davis Road—were taken into custody and are currently being held at the Franklin County Jail.
The men face multiple felony charges, including first-degree burglary, armed robbery, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, felony home invasion, and aggravated battery.
Andrews said this is an ongoing investigation, and more arrests and charges are expected.
