Two Rabies Cases Confirmed in Habersham

Madi Hawkins, Director of Habersham County Animal Care and Control, reported Tuesday that there have been two  positive rabies cases confirmed in November in Habersham County.

On Nov. 5, she said, a skunk came into contact with a vaccinated dog (a Jack Russell mix) on Pea Ridge Road in Cornelia. Test results came back positive on Nov. 13, 2015, and the dog is in 45-day quarantine.

On Nov. 10, 2015 a skunk came into contact with a dog on Family Ties Lane in Demorest. There was no proof of vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian, as required by state law and county ordinance, Hawkins stated. Test results came back on Nov. 16, and the dog is in 6-month quarantine.

Hawkins said there will be a rabies clinic hosted at Tractor Supply in Cornelia on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 4-6:30 p.m. The cost for one-year vaccinations will be $10 and three-year vaccinations will cost $18. Dates for December clinics will be announced.
