Two hurt when biker crashes while trying to outrun deputies, GSP

A motorcyclist faces DUI and other charges after wrecking head-on with another vehicle in Stephens County. The State Patrol says Michael Kloss, 41, of Eastanollee, was trying to evade law enforcement at the time of the wreck. Kloss and a passenger on his bike, 31-year-old Shauna Arrowood of Clarkesville, were both injured in the crash.

The accident happened on Black Mountain Road around 4:39 p.m. on Sept. 26. Kloss was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle attempting to “flee and elude” Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies, according to CPL John Getty with GSP Post 7 in Toccoa. “The motorcycle was traveling south on Black Mountain Road and was recklessly operated on the wrong side of the roadway while negotiating a curve,” he says. The motorcycle struck the front of a northbound Jeep Cherokee driven by 19-year-old Charles Palmer of Toccoa.

Habersham Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Wurtz says the motorcycle fit the description in a lookout issued for a reckless driver. Kloss ran from deputies after they attempted to stop him for traffic offenses in the area of Highway 365 and Tom Arrendale interchange.

EMS transported Kloss and Arrowood to Northeast Georgia Medical Center to be treated for injuries they sustained in the wreck. Palmer and a passenger in the Jeep, Charleen Palmer, 47, also of Toccoa, were not injured.

Kloss is being charged with DUI, reckless driving, attempting to flee and elude, unlicensed, no insurance, concealed tag, and several other traffic violations.
