Two people were injured and three pets were killed in separate house fires Sunday evening in Hall County.

According to Hall County EMS Division Chief Bobby Ogletree, firefighters were dispatched to the first blaze at a residence on Bluffton Drive, off Athens Highway. He says neighbors helped a person out of the two-story house through a window before crews arrived. When firefighters got to the scene, heavy fire was showing through the attic.

“After an aggressive attack, fire personnel were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish it entirely,” says Ogletree.

Hall County EMS transported two people to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Red Cross was notified to assist the displaced residents.

The second fire broke out in the 3000 block of Garden Boulevard. Hall County Fire Rescue and Gainesville City Fire responded to a report of smoke in a residence. Upon arrival, crews found a single-family home with smoke showing from the front. Firefighters made entry with hose lines and quickly knocked down the fire. They found two cats and a dog dead inside the residence.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
