Two drivers escaped serious injury when their vehicles collided on GA 365 at Crane Mill Road in Alto Sunday morning.

The Georgia State Patrol identifies the drivers as 81-year-old Angie Galloway of Alto and 82-year-old Paul Evan McElmurray of Gainesville.

According to troopers, McElmurray was driving a Honda Accord on Crane Mill Road, attempting to cross over the highway. He failed to yield and ran into the path of a northbound Ford Escape.

The impact of the crash caused the Honda to overturn onto its side, trapping McElmurray inside. First responders worked for half an hour to free him from the wreckage.

Habersham EMS transported both drivers to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

“Both were transported nonemergency to the hospital,” Habersham County Emergency Services Capt. Matt Ruark tells Now Habersham.

Troopers charged McElmurray for failing to yield. The collision temporarily closed Crane Mill Road at the highway intersection.

On April 2, a wreck at the same location sent five people to the hospital, three of them were in critical condition.
