Two Injured in Cannon Bridge Road Wreck

A two car wreck on Cannon Bridge Road sent two people to the hospital on Friday.

It happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Cannon Bridge Road/GA 105 and Sweetbriar Drive. According to State Trooper Aaron Church, 34-year old Jose Felipe of Cornelia was traveling west on Sweetbriar Drive and had come to a stop at its intersection with Cannon Bridge Road. 17-year old Cara Shirley of Toccoa was traveling north on Cannon Bridge in the left lane. Church says Felipe failed to yield the right of way and pulled his 2000 Honda Accord into the path of Shirley’s 2008 Toyota Yaris.

The front of Shirley’s car hit Felipe’s left front fender. The cars spun around, striking each other again in the rear. Both cars came to rest in the northbound lanes of Cannon Bridge Road.

The drivers were the only ones in the vehicles. Trooper Church says both were alert and talking following the accident. Felipe was transported to Habersham Medical Center. Shirley was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

A school bus was traveling behind Shirley in the northbound lane of Cannon Bridge Road when she was hit and managed to avoid the accident.

Traffic was backed up on Cannon Bridge between Highway 115 and Falling Waters Road for about an hour as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
