Two hospitalized in East Hall County shooting; suspect arrested and charged

Two men hospitalized after shooting on Greenway Road

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an East Hall County shooting that left two men hospitalized. The shooting took place outside a home on Greenway Road Tuesday evening, a news release from the sheriff’s office says.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the scene just after 6:30 p.m. on August 6. When they arrived, they found the victim, a 27-year-old man, suffering from a gunshot wound to his right leg. The suspected shooter, 31-year-old Devin Julius Collins of Gainesville had fled the scene.

“Another deputy responding to the scene located Collins walking southbound on Old Cornelia Highway. Collins had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen,” says HCSO Public Information Officer B.J. Williams.

Both men were taken to the hospital with their injuries.

Suspect charged

According to Williams, a preliminary investigation determined Collins had been threatening members of his family throughout the day and told them he was going to come to the home on Greenway Road and shoot them.

“He arrived at the home with a gun and confronted two family members outside the residence,” says Williams. “He fired his weapon, striking the male victim, but missing the adult female victim.”

The man returned fire and hit Collins once.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing information about the relationship between Collins and the victims.

The hospital released Collins Wednesday afternoon. Deputies arrested him and booked him at the Hall County Jail. He faces two felony counts of aggravated assault and aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act.

As of early Thursday, Collins remained in jail without bond.
