Paramedics airlifted one patient from the scene and an ambulance took an 8-year-old child the hospital following a wreck Wednesday morning in Banks County.

At 11:20 a.m., Banks County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the crash at 3987 Old Highway 441 in Alto.

A pickup truck ran off the road and down an embankment. First responders stabilized the child. EMS transported the young patient to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in stable condition.

A female patient was trapped inside the truck. It took emergency personnel a while to free her. Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols called it a “lengthy extrication.” Crews were on the scene for over two hours. The patient sustained multi-trauma injuries. She was flown to the hospital in serious condition.

The wreck tied up traffic in the area, shutting down the road for over two hours. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
