Two girls, ages 5 and 14, injured in Athens shooting

Reward offered as search for suspects continues

Two young girls, ages 5 and 14, were sent to the hospital following a shooting in Athens. The shooting occurred outside a shopping center in the 400 block of North Avenue near the downtown district.

Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) officers were sent to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. When they arrived, they found the 14-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to the arm. The 5-year-old had an injury to her face.

“At this time, it is unclear if the injury was the result of a gunshot wound, bullet fragment, or shattered glass,” says ACCPD spokesperson Lt. Shaun Barnett.

EMS transported both girls to an Athens area hospital for treatment.

Crime Stoppers in Athens is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons involved in this incident.
