And then there were two…GHSA Elite 8 Basketball Preview

It’s nearly March, and that means if you’re still alive in the GHSA State Playoffs in basketball, it’s been an historic season.

While many local programs had a great year and made the state playoffs, there are now only two teams left in the Elite 8 (quarterfinals).

Rabun Co Lady Wildcats (27-2; 12-1 8-AA) vs Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane (22-2; 9-1 1-AA)

The Lady Cats are looking for their first trip to the Final 4. Rabun is no stranger to getting this far, as the Lady Cats have made the Elite 8 now five times since 2008-09. The #3-state ranked Rabun girls will have their hands full with #4-ranked Fitzgerald.

Dawson Co Lady Tigers (12-17; 5-7 7-AAA) at Morgan Co Lady Bulldogs (16-12; 8-3 8-AAA)

What a run it’s been for the Lady Tigers, who, even after advancing to the Elite 8, will not be able to equal a .500 winning percentage for the year. That’s called playing hot at the right time. The tough region 7-AAA opponents the Lady Tigers have played are now paying dividends. Dawson last made the Final 4 in the 2012-13 season when it advanced to the State Championship game.
