UPDATE: Mother to face murder charges in deaths of her children

Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators have obtained arrest warrants for a Gainesville woman for murder and aggravated assault in the Friday afternoon, Dec. 11, deaths of her two children.

Berenice Jaramillo-Hernandez, 26, faces two counts each of felony murder, malice murder, and aggravated assault. She’s accused of stabbing her 5-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter to death, then stabbing and seriously injuring herself.

The victims are identified as, Mateo Miranda Jaramillo and Katherine Miranda Jaramillo. Investigators notified the children’s next of kin Saturday.

According to the preliminary investigation, Jaramillo-Hernandez fatally stabbed her children between noon and 2 p.m. on Friday inside the home on Crescent Drive.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the initial 911 call around 2 p.m. Friday in reference to a woman that had cut herself. Deputies located the injured Jaramillo-Hernandez and discovered the children’s bodies inside the house.

Hall County Fire Services transported Jaramillo-Hernandez to the hospital for treatment. Detectives spent hours on the scene Friday investigating. Authorities will charge Jaramillo-Hernandez when she completes her medical treatment, the sheriff’s office says.

The case remains under investigation.
