In his first speech to lawmakers since his return to the White House, President Donald J. Trump is set to deliver a major address to a joint session of Congress at 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 4.

During the address, expected to be held in the House chamber later tonight, Trump will likely outline his plans for the next four years in office.

The primetime speech will come at the end of a frenzied first seven weeks of Trump’s second term, marked by significant policy moves and controversy – most notably a seemingly contentious exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office on Friday, Feb 28.

The president has since announced a decision to pause all aid to the nation of Ukraine in the wake of the incident last Friday.

Since taking office again, Trump has pushed forward tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada and dismissed federal workers in a bid to reduce government spending.

During his address, Trump is expected to touch on a number of issues, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, his push to deport undocumented immigrants as well as his plans for government reform through the newly-established Department of Government Efficiency, led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

Trump’s remarks are expected to offer a glimpse into his priorities for the future and his vision for the next chapter of his presidency.

Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Michigan, has been selected to deliver a rebuttal to Trump’s address on behalf of the Democratic Party later tonight.

Where to watch

The president’s speech will be aired by most major mainstream news platforms, including CBS News, Fox News, CNN, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and PBS, with streaming available on multiple platforms like Paramount+.
