Senior Chris Carden swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference weekly honors, earning both the Pitcher of the Week and the Player of the Week from the conference as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
On the mound, the senior from Fayetteville, Georgia, finished the week on the mound with a 1-0 record, adding a save as well with a 1.08 ERA. In the first game of a doubleheader against AAC foe Point, Carden pitched a complete game one-hitter, scattering just two walks through the seven innings and striking out eight in the process. In game two, Carden came in for the four-out save, giving up a run and a hit in 1.1 innings. Carden currently ranks eighth in the conference in opponent batting average, fifth in innings pitched, third in strikeouts and fourth in wins.
His batting stats were stellar as well. In four games this week, Carden hit 9-for-17 with a double, four home runs, four runs scored and 12 RBI. He also added a stolen base as well. Carden’s two home runs and six RBI in a game are tied for second in the conference in a single game this season. The senior currently is tied for eighth in the conference with a .391 batting average, 13th in the league in slugging percentage with .627 and third in hits with 43 and RBI with 34.
Carden is the first baseball player in AAC history to win both Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Carden and the TMU baseball team will take the field again tomorrow at Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
