Truett Wrestling to Compete in Appalachian Athletic Conference Starting 2017-18

The Truett McConnell wrestling team will compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference starting in the 2017-18 season as announced by the league office Wednesday.

TMU will join Allen University, Reinhardt University, St. Andrews University and West Virginia Tech as the fifth school in the championship sport.

Currently, the Bears compete as affiliate members of the Mid-South Conference and will finish the season with the MSC. Starting in 2017-18, the AAC will sponsor men’s wrestling as the 20th championship offered by the conference.

The decision to sponsor men’s wrestling came last week when the Council of Presidents approved the sport following the recommendation from the conference’s athletic directors on November 21.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer men’s wrestling as a sponsored sport beginning next year,” said AAC Commissioner John Sullivan. “This marks our 20th sponsored championship sport and one that is seeing steady growth across our conference and the NAIA.”
