Sophomore pitcher Gregory Elder Jr., has been named Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Milligan on Saturday as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
In his fifth start of the season and sixth outing, Elder (5-0) pitched his third complete game in a row against the Buffs Saturday. The sophomore struck out a season- and career-high 14 batters while walking just two and giving up just four hits. The 14 strikeouts is tied for second-most in a game in the NAIA this season, trailing the national leader, Ben Madison of Central Baptist (Ark.) by two.
Elder ranks second in the nation in wins (5), third in opponent batting average (.119) and strikeouts (53) and fourth in hits allowed per nine innings (3.55). In the AAC, he ranks first in opponent batting average, wins and strikeouts, second in innings pitched (33.0), third in hits allowed (13) and seventh in ERA (1.64).
The Truett McConnell baseball team will take on Southern Wesleyan tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Cleveland before hosting Bryan College for the AAC home opener this coming weekend.
