In 1946 with only 55 students in attendance, no one could have known what, in 2015, Truett-McConnell College would be facing. It is a problem universities welcome having. The exponential growth experienced over the past seven years has left TMC at full capacity. In a campaign entitled, “Whatever is True,” Truett is pledging to “radically transform our Campus and our students.” It is an exciting time for the students, administration, alumni, and community. The project represents what TMC believes about education, “that at the heart of our distinctively Baptist faith and Anabaptist heritage is a desire to preach on, teach on, think on, and dwell on ‘whatever is true.'”
The goal is to raise $3 Million dollars toward the overall project cost of $13 Million. It is broken down into contributions as follows: $500,000 in in-kind gifts, $500,000 in grants, $500,000 raised by Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors, and 1.5 million by separate, individual donations.
The George Blaurock Student Recreation Center, named after an evangelical Anabaptist who committed his life to Biblical truths and died defending them, will be the largest capital project ever undertaken in the history of Truett-McConnell College. The plans are to house 3 intramural basketball courts with a seating capacity of 1200, two racquet-ball courts, 9,000 sq. ft. aquatic center, 6,000 sq. ft. Wellness Center with free-weights, ellipticals, and treadmills, restaurant facility, appropriate locker rooms, conference room and office space for Sports and Student Services leadership. The current Sports and Student Services leadership will be relocated to the Student Recreation Center, which will allow for the current space to be refurbished for several additional classrooms.
Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities will be allowed access to exercise in a user-friendly environment. The ability to exercise, hold health beneficial seminars, conduct wellness projects, and events for the total well-being of individuals, will be the commitment to wholeness. It is the desire of TMC to have a lasting impact on the community through health and fitness.
Truett-McConnell College believes, “God is raising up a new generation of believers, calling all of them to be witnesses for Him.”
