Truett Bears Riding Four-Game Win Streak After Monday Thriller

Kai Lambert hit a layup with one second left as the Truett McConnell men’s basketball team won a thriller in the Bear Cave, 89-88, over Reinhardt Monday night.

The Bears have won four in a row dating back to December 16 against Ave Maria.

The Bears shot lights out in the first half, making 17-of-33 shots in the first half to take a 51-41 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Eagles came out quickly in the second half as they went on a 13-2 run to take a 54-53 lead. After that point, neither team took more than a four-point lead.

Reinhardt led 88-87 with six seconds left in the game after a Jacob Booke three-pointer in transition. The Bears put tremendous pressure on the Eagles on the inbound pass, forcing a turnover with a Lambert steal, setting up the final play for the freshman.

David Campbell Jr., led the way for TMU with a game-high 33 points on 11-of-24 shooting. Mario Westbrooksadded 14 points, while Lambert contributed 12 points, including the game-winner.

The four-game streak is the longest winning streak for the Bears since the 2014-15 season when TMU won six straight from December 15, 2014, to January 14, 2015.

The Bears will face a tough task as they look to extend the winning streak to five games as they take on No. 6 Union on Wednesday night in Barbourville, Kentucky. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
