Truett Baseball Adds Nine to Upcoming Class

Head baseball coach Mike Croley has announced the addition of nine incoming student-athletes to the Truett McConnell baseball program.

The nine incoming players are Russell Barton, Austin Bennett, James Bitner, Dalton Cameron, James Civelli, Mason Gaines, Corban Meeler, Hunter Plant and Kendall Sellers.

Barton was named Region Pitcher of the Year this past year while attending Dodge County High School in Eastman, Georgia. He helped to lead his team to an Elite Eight appearance in this year’s GHSA Class AA Baseball Tournament.

Bennett was part of a Grayson High School team that went 25-8 this season, earning a berth in the GHSA Class AAAAAAA Baseball Tournament and making it to the second round of the tournament.

Bitner will come to TMU after a very successful prep career at North Cobb Christian. He helped lead the team to a second round berth in the GHSA Class A-Private Tournament. He was named Second-Team All-Region Third Baseman this year.

Cameron was named First-Team All-Region this season after posting a .390 batting average with seven doubles. He was named Second-Team All-Region and All-State after a .357 batting average in his junior campaign.

Civelli completed his senior campaign with a .371 batting average and an on-base percentage just under .500. He also recorded a sub-2.00 ERA with 10+ starts. Hebron Christian made it to the Elite Eight of the GHSA Class A-Private Tournament.

Gaines is the brother of former TMU catcher Tate Gaines. From Loganville Christian Academy, Gaines helped lead his team to a 19-5 season this year.

Meeler has helped lead North Hall High School to a state championship berth in the GHSA Class AAA Tournament where the Trojans will take on Pierce County this weekend. He sits in second in NHHS history in strikeouts in a single game with 11 last season.

Plant posted a .303 batting average in 2017 with a .452 slugging percentage and a .454 on base percentage with a homer and seven sacrifice bunts. He also posted a .980 fielding percentage with 147 chances.

Sellers was an outfielder for Jeff Davis and has helped lead his team to a state championship berth this weekend in the GHSA Class AA Tournament.
