Truck takes down power lines causing outages in Helen

The City of Helen urges residents to be patient as crews work to restore power and water service to parts of the city.

The utilities shut down this afternoon after a transfer trailer truck accidentally took down power lines crossing Highway 17/75 at Alpenrosen Strasse on the east side of town.

“This has left everyone close to the area without power,” a city alert states. The accident also heavily damaged electrical lines leading to a nearby water booster pump station, leaving some residents and businesses without water.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, city officials said it could be “later this evening or tonight” before service is fully restored.

Highway 17/75 at Surestay and Alpenrosen Strasse are closed until the repairs are made.
