Truck hit by train in Lula

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a pickup truck and train wreck. The incident happened Tuesday morning, July 30, at the Eighth Street and Railroad Avenue crossover in Lula on the Banks County side. A Chevy Silverado 2500 HD was on the train tracks when the train hit it. It is uncertain if the truck was disabled or why it was sitting on the tracks.

Officials tell Now Habersham that three people have been injured and transported to the hospital. The injuries are non-life-threatening. Authorities have not released any names.

Banks County emergency personnel responded to the scene early Tuesday, July 30, at 7:14 a.m. and requested mutual aid from Hall County.

Northfolk Southern Railroad is investigating the accident and SCRT (Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team) from the Georgia State Patrol.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office posted an alert to social media urging motorists to use caution when traveling through the area as crews work to clear the accident.
