The Georgia State Patrol has released the name of the woman rescued August 29 from an overturned vehicle off Highway 17.

According to the GSP accident report released on August 31, 45-year-old Stacy Gray of Cornelia was driving a Kia Sportage south on Hwy. 17 Thursday evening. Troopers say Gray lost control of the vehicle in a curve and struck a road sign and utility pole before overturning near Hayes Corner.

911 callers reported the wreck at 7:21 p.m. on August 29. A K-9 unit was in the area and was first on the scene, says Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore. The deputy found Gray inside the vehicle near the broken utility pole.

First responders freed Gray and transported her to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Habersham for treatment.

Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa investigated the wreck. According to the report, troopers cited Gray for driving under the influence and failing to maintain her lane.

Moore says the wrecked SUV was almost completely covered in tall vegetation. Law enforcement detoured traffic onto Cool Springs Road for nearly two hours while crews cleared the wreckage.
