Trailwave Fiber is out in Rabun County, and company officials say it could be at least a day before internet service is restored.
Habersham EMC, which owns and operates the system, says part of the Trailwave Fiber line has been damaged. Crews are on their way to repair it, but customers should expect a longer than normal wait due to ongoing electrical repairs from Hurricane Zeta.
In many cases, fiber follows the same route as electricity and attaches to the same poles. Currently, local electric utilities have widespread outages. If poles are broken or trees are on the line, the electrical equipment must be repaired before the fiber service is restored.
