Trailwave fiber to expand service in White County

(Helen) – HEMC’s Trailwave fiber optic internet service is about to expand their service, with a pilot project in White County. About 60 to 75 people who live in the area and were advised about the pilot program attended an informational meeting Tuesday at Mount Yonah Elementary School.

During the meeting Jonathan Cantrell, HEMC president and CEO shared with the group the project plans. The pilot area is North Duncan Bridge Rd. and Pless Rd. (See Map)

Nicole Dover, Director of Marketing and Communications for Habersham Electric said construction will begin in April on this expansion. “We estimate it will be three to six months from a customer signing up until their service is activated, ” said Dover.
The deadline to sign up is March 31st.

Customers, in this pilot project, who sign up will be able to receive 100 Mbps for $49.95 or 1 Gig service for $79.95. That is both up and download speed. According to Dover, if there is enough members who take advantage of this pilot program, Trailwave will extend the service to other areas.

Dover emphasized that this expansion project will not affect electrical customers rates, The project will be self sustaining.
