Traffic stop leads to drug trafficking charges

Two Atlanta area women remain behind bars following their arrests in Habersham County on drug trafficking charges.

A state trooper arrested Tigist E. Teshome, 36, of Stone Mountain, and Lula Andehaimanot Tesfamicael, 29, of Tucker, during a traffic stop on the morning of July 17.

The patrolman stopped the vehicle for speeding on GA 365 at Duncan Bridge Road. In the arrest warrant he says he smelled an odor of marijuana. That prompted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, the trooper says he found bags of pills in a clothes bag in the trunk of the vehicle. The pills contained suspected amphetamine and MDMA – commonely referred to as ecstasy.

Arrest warrants allege the women had 51.6 grams of ecstasy in their possession, enough for a trafficking charge. The trooper also charged Teshome and Tesfamicael with possession of amphetamine and MDMA. In addition, he charged Tesfamicael with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Teshome also faces a speeding and DUI drugs less safe charge.

The magistrate judge denied bond for both women. As of Sunday July 23, they remained in the Habersham County Detention Center.
