Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A traffic stop in Rabun County turned up nearly $1,000 in methamphetamine and landed a woman in jail on drug charges.

The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) arrested 30-year old Johnnie Rathburn of Mountain City. ARDEO Special Agent in Charge Mitchell Posey says a Rabun County Deputy stopped Rathburn after noticing a motor vehicle violation. He says deputies located 8 grams of methamphetamine, scales, numerous plastic baggies and a pipe in her car. The drugs had a street value of $880.

Rathburn is charged with possession of methamphetamine. She’s being held in the Rabun County Detention Center.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s Offices: White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Habersham County, Stephens County, and Rabun County, along with the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
