The Toccoa Symphony Orchestra has engaged audiences of all ages through the years by performing dynamic and creative programming ranging from classical to popular music selections. The full Orchestra of 50 – 60 talented musicians perform three concerts per year and features regional guests, instrumental soloists, and vocalists.
Founded in 1971, the driving force behind the creation of the Symphony was Mrs. Pinkie Ware, a Toccoa resident and music teacher. Ware grew up in the local orphanage run by her parents. Throughout her life she was dedicated to the community and was extremely passionate about music. She was the State President of the Music Educators Association, the first Music Supervisor of the Stephens County School District and was active with many local choirs.
Wm. David Stufft has been the Conductor of the Symphony since 2001. He is also the Chair of the Music Department at Toccoa Falls College. He initially joined the Symphony as a trumpet player and later led the percussion section before becoming the Conductor. At each concert, Maestro Stufft shares with the audience special insights about each musical selection, further enhancing the concert experience.
The Toccoa Symphony Orchestra Late Winter Concert is titled “Made in America”. Some of the most beloved music of all time has been written by American composers. Toccoa Symphony Orchestra salutes these great composers and their work for a concert that is “Made in America”. Featured composers include: Irving Berlin, Scott Joplin, Leonard Bernstein and more. This performance will be on Sunday March 8th @ 4pm at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa.
