The last of four suspects charged in a Toccoa shooting is now in custody.

The Lavonia Police Department, in a press release, says Larquavious DeShyne “Shyne” Colbert surrendered to police at the urging of his family. He was taken into custody without incident.

Colbert, 27, of Toccoa, is charged with aggravated assault and battery and discharging a gun near a public highway.

Toccoa police asked the GBI to investigate after responding to Stephens County Hospital on the evening of June 29 about a shooting victim. According to the GBI, their investigation revealed the male victim was shot at a home on West Whitman Street after an argument.

The GBI announced on July 2 that they were still searching for Colbert. Lavonia police investigators conducted an extensive search and met with Colbert’s family. According to the news release, investigators encouraged his family to advise him to “surrender peacefully.”

Colbert turned himself in at the Lavonia Police Department and was later booked at the Stephens County jail.

Family members arrested

The GBI arrested three members of a Toccoa family in connection to the case. Agents charged 21-year-old Zatorian Lacy with misdemeanor obstruction and disorderly conduct. They also charged 28-year-old Christopher Lacy and 20-year-old Shane Lacy with making false statements.

GBI Public Affairs Director Nelly Miles says the victim was moved from Stephens County to another hospital, where he is currently being treated.
