Toccoa man charged with vehicular homicide in Cornelia man’s death

A Toccoa man is out of jail on bond after being arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide in the December death of an elderly Cornelia man.

87-year-old Homer James Stephens died on Dec. 16, 2019, nine days after he was involved in an automobile accident with 56-year-old Douglas Cram.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Cram was driving west on Level Grove Road in Cornelia when he failed to yield while turning left onto the GA-365 southbound entrance ramp. The 1998 Ford Expedition he was driving struck the front end of an eastbound 2000 Isuzu Hombre driven by Stephens.

Homer Stephens died on Dec. 16, 2019, of complications from injuries he received in the crash.

Stephens later died of complications from the injuries he received in the crash.

The State Patrol charged Cram with failure to yield and second-degree vehicular homicide, which is a misdemeanor.

He was arrested on Jan. 20, 2020, and released the same day on a $1200 bond.

 

Correction: The accident happened on Dec. 7, 2019. Stephens passed away nine days after the accident, not eleven as previously reported.
