The Truett McConnell men’s golf team put up a 289 second round score, breaking the old school record by two strokes, as part of a first day that saw the Bears finish in fifth place after the second round completed Tuesday morning.
The Bears are just four strokes off the lead.
Matt Smith fired a second-round 69 to pace the school record round, while senior Drew Schmidt shot a 71. David Ford shot a career-best 73 and Luke Peavy‘s 76 rounded out the record setting round.
Point University leads the tournament through two rounds with a 589. St. Andrews shot a school-record 282 in the second round to finish at 590, while Tennessee Wesleyan and host Reinhardt finished at 591 and 592, respectively.
The Bears will finish out the tournament today with the final 18 holes.
